“The Tree of Life”

Commissioned as a reflection on the connection between Heaven and Earth, and the Mystery of What Is, “The Tree of Life” (2010) series was inspired by a live oak, “Angel Oak,” that is a native to John’s Island, South Carolina. The “Angel Oak” is believed to be in excess of 1500 years old; the tree itself provides shade to over 17,000 square feet! Having survived countless hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and human interference this tree was easy to draw on for inspiration. The series was also infused with study and exploration of many traditional and esoteric concepts of The Tree of Life. Purposefully abstract with hints of the original shape and structure, I invite you to contemplate and explore the many shapes and forms and how they may contribute and relate to your life. Enjoy!
